Thousands of protesters hit the streets in the UK to show their disapproval of financial cuts to public programs. The British government wants workers to pay more pensions and retire later, but the unions are not having it. Some say the unions in the US encounter similar challenges. But will American unions' protests ever reach the magnitude of the UK unions' demonstrations? Mike Elk, labor journalist, compares the UK unions to the American unions.

  • Hard work is very good when it's for your family pockets, not for corporations...

  • Excellent! Hopefully it WILL hit the US, but most US citizens are ignorant docile sheep. The chances of it being a real deal in the fascist states of amerika is pretty slim.

  • I think these strikers should give their jobs to people who have been made redundant who are trying so hard to find work.

Strikers do need shooting, fucking losers.

  • "democratic ownership" of labor movements.that! is the only way. he said that. no! that is not the only way!

there is no "democrats" without the PEOPLE. there are no "republicans(consrvatives) without the PEOPLE. get it straight!

haven't you pundits got clear yet? you are NOTHING without the PEOPLE.

    get it/ yet?

  • @jdouglasfisher i dunno. either way i should patent their bodies before playboy gets to them

  • The power is with the people, so these evil tax'ers, bankers (wankers) illuminatee goverments and pussy ass kings or queens .... cant do shit with out us... if we all decide not to work ... we have made throught hard times (harder to come) but they cant do shit with out us !!! so power to the people !!!

  • @blacklite911 I think that ship has sailed. People do not generally see unions as a good thing in America because they compare union shops (GM and Ford) to non-union shops (Mercedes and BMW) and know which one seems to have it better. That or they think of unions being for government workers which gives them a bad taste since union concessions are paid with tax dollars.

It may require a new paradigm different from us vs them of union vs management.

  • @blacklite911 It was the air traffic controllers not pilots. Not saying that the PotUS didn't jump in and crush the strike just want to clarify who was striking. ATC were employees of the FAA and therefore government employees. Pilots are employees of each airline so they wouldn't all strike (we have seen strikes against single airlines in the past though).
