This video honors my wife, Kris Falvo, who had the courage to take her battle for student privacy all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

  • Students traded papers and then returned them to the owner who verbally disclosed the grade to the teacher. The legal issue was whether the unwanted disclosure of personal information violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. The Supreme Court ruled that FERPA was intended to prevent disclosure of education records but that daily grades did not need such protection. The time invested in reading the legal opinions on this case (Falvo vs. Owasso) is very educational.

  • Thank you for posting this. If you ever watch the movie "Fast times at Ridgemont high" the teacher is passing out the papers to the students and he yells out the grade "F"..."D"..."F"...as he hands each student their paper.

I remember my classmates having to check my paper. I used to hate that. Thanks again.

  • What was the privacy issue? Did the school just post grades up for everyone to see?
