Social psychologist Sam Gosling examines what an individual's online networking profile can reveal about their personality, using websites such as Facebook and MySpace as examples.

Sam Gosling on "Snoop: What Your Stuff Says About You."

Does what's on your desk reveal what's on your mind? Do those pictures on your walls tell true tales about your character? Is your favorite outfit about to give you away?

For the last 10 years psychologist Gosling has been studying how people project (and protect) their inner selves. By exploring our private worlds (desks, bedrooms, even our clothes and cars), he shows not only how we showcase our personalities in unexpected ways, but also how we create personality in the first place, communicate it others and interpret the world around us - The Commonwealth Club of California

Sam Gosling, Ph.D., is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. His work has been widely covered in the media, including The New York Times, Psychology Today, NPR, and "Good Morning America," and his research is featured in Malcolm Gladwell's Blink. Gosling is the recipient of the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution. He lives in Austin, Texas.

  • saw you commenting on animal planet and either you got paid to say stupid shit which makes you an idiot or you are simply an idiot you pick

  • handsome and intelligent speaker! Yes, Facebook is not just a website to post pictures on..it means a certain social and psychological needs that most of us are longing for!

  • facebook is meaningless and is more at face value of what people want you to know. I think its all about attention , and these people use it in a way to gain that attention in which they lack in the REAL WORLD. Im sorry it is very idiotic , i miss the time where you didnt know where people were ( as in being tagged) and if you saw them out and about you would talk and catch up. people have more time and are not spending it wisely

  • Can't see much of interest or value in this

  • This guy doesn't really get it. It's the age gap. Anybody born before probably 1985 give or take a year will never really understand the culture of online social networks and how the offline and online realities of our modern lives affect each other.

  • this video's not really informative, i can sum up all those words hes saying with a really simple statement: people spend a lot of time on facebook, and our research tells us they use it simply as a medium of communication... so uh.. ok... cool..thts it
