Duel-Barrel Potato Gun w/Recoil

This is a project a buddy and I built in High school. I had to get the principle's permission and an escort by the school cop to bring it on campus. The white things landing in the yard are the sabots not the rounds which you'll see go way off screen. The piece that comes off the right cannon when shot is a safety blow off shroud. It blows off when the round is too big to prevent it from becoming lodged in the barrel. The angle is adjustable and with the sabots it can shoot anything 2 inches or less in diameter. Feel free to post any other questions in the comments and I'll try to answer them for ya.

LAME....dude those potatoes went no where.....I have one that launches those suckers about a football field. Same setup, but hand held and it uses cheap hairspray. Sorry man fail.

If you check the comments you'll see that the object landing in the background was one of the sabots. The cannon shoots potatoes around 400 yards. Trust me, your hairspray has nothing on propane.

Don't wanna sound un-impressed by propane but if you have thick enough PVC, SCH120 and above, add oxygen, and get a nice tight fit from your projectile, 1mm diameter less that the inside of the barrel, and lubricate the thing. i do it with propane and oxygen. It gets AA batteries clean through 1/2" plywood

Next step is to make it into a hybrid, 20X mix ;)

Dude I can see the spud.....its not going that far. If anything a piece may go that far, but alot of it is getting striped off. I'm telling you man I know its awesome n all. Its not going 400 yards though. Mine will go about 1/8th of a mile maybe a bit shorter it depends. I need to make a vid.

in the scientific community, they have small bottles, just under 2 inches in diameter called "boston rounds" have a 4 ounce capacity...

i got a few from my last job and made a 2 inch barrel to accomdate them (i've been using 1-1/2" barrels) anyways...

i'm gonna fire off these bottles filled with gasoline and stopped off with a piece of cloth, can you say mini-molotov? ;)

a potato slice sabot and a hard boiled egg would be fun too ;)
