The Class 31 is a diesel-electric locomotive. The model in the video is powered by a 24V battery. The sound unit re-produces the sounds recorded from a real one!

There is a relay in the loco which monitors the controller's Forward / Reverse signal. The relay switches between the two lighting cicrcuits.

Yes, but it can be used with ANY loco. The sound unit can re-loaded with new sounds for a different class of loco. (The sound is produced using a programmable DCC Decoder, housed in the Control Unit)
