In 1973 my parents left New York City in search of an alternative farming lifestyle. They spent the next 16 years working as farmers in Canada and in Israel. My father spent most of this time working as a dairy farmer. In 1989 we moved back to the United States and settled back into a capitalist lifestyle. My father has not milked a cow since.

In Learning How To Milk A Cow From My Father, I asked my father if he remembered how to milk a cow and whether he would teach me how to do it. I was working at a school in Vermont and my father lives in Florida, so I had him teach me how to milk a cow through a video chat (skype) conversation.

  • Obviously the cow is a kicker. They need a rope to tie her legs. Some FARMERS PULL THE TAIL VERY HARD> The cow can't kick when you do it. They also have a way to give a mild electric shock to the rear hips. The cow can't kick. The idea is to do what you can tgo stop tghe cow from kicking so she'll not kick tghe bucket and spill the milk or hit your head and injure you.
