Earth's strangest animals and the music they inspire.

About: Earth's most peculiar animals paired with Earth's most peculiar music. Episode 1, "Aye-aye," focuses on a nocturnal lemur from Madagascar, and features the Kronos Quartet, as well as a visit to the Duke Lemur Center.

Background: The concept for this show stems from the book Unusual Creatures and the album Songs For Unusual Creatures, by Michael Hearst.

Unusual Creatures (book, Chronicle Kids, 2012) -- Featuring 50 of Earth's strangest animals, complete with facts, humor, illustrations, maps, scientific info, and quizzes.

Songs For Unusual Creatures (CD, Urban Geek Records, 2012) -- An album of instrumental songs inspired by some of Earth's most peculiar animals: dugong, aye-aye, magnapinna squid, Chinese giant salamander, blue-footed booby, elephant shrew, tardigrade, etc. The album features guests musicians, including Kronos Quartet, The Microscopic Septet, Margaret Leng Tan, the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots;
and also features some of the strangest musical instruments on the planet: daxophone, theremin, claviola, stylophone, glass armonica, tubax.

    Songs for unusual creatures? Seems normal to me, in this day some ppl never seen a cow. And yes, i do write songs about another creature here in the Pacific NW,, guess who? lol. (this was a great idea) tX
