The goldfish is a freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae of order Cypriniformes. It was one of the earliest fish to be domesticated and is one of the most commonly kept aquarium fishes. Goldfish were bred from the Prussian carp in China and they remain the closest wild relative of the goldfish. Common goldfish come in a variety of colors including red, orange, gold, white, black, yellow and lemon goldfish.
Goldfish are popular pond fish, since they are small, inexpensive, colorful and very hardy. A fish is any gill-bearing aquatic vertebrate animal that lacks limbs with digits. A typical fish is ectothermic, has a streamlined body for rapid swimming, extracts oxygen from water using gills.
An aquarium is a vivarium consisting of at least one transparent side in which water plants or animals are kept. Fishkeepers use aquaria to keep fish. The keeping of fish in an aquarium became a popular hobby and spread quickly.
