If you need a whip, your a bad rider, and i feel sorry for your horses, abd youll never form a bond with them, i ride bareback and bridless, with voice trained horses, no kicking or whipping, that means the horse has no respect for you and you really shouldnt be on it in the first place, poor horse, atleast he can rest in peace now and not have the hell beat out of him for entertainment

Yall ppl that are being rude need to shut up. My horse requires a whip. She whips just as much as i do and my friends do. Its called whipping ever heard of it. Yall need to lay off.
Some ppl might not have to but. It does improve you time. So shut up.

@1233Maya no it was actually the world record.......... it has been now topped by 1 1 hundredth of a second by nicole aichele or whatever her name is. Up until Nicole's run-this was the fastest time on a standard WPRA pattern EVER ran.

Anyone who says that this girl and this horse didn't do their job properly you obviously just want to make their mistakes right and this pair are amazing

This isnt the world record... its the 3rd fastest time in the world but not the 1st and he was 23 when he died. (ik a guy that is friends with his owners and he was in the stands when HotShot ran this time. He also likes my horse witch made me like freak out.)

@ilovepreciousjim2 Oh I thought he was like 26 or something.. never mind. he had a big heart.And i know he loved his job,all of my horses do... I mean who doesn't like barrel racing?Right now hotshot is running barrels in heaven

@tristalista totally with you lol

@quarterhorselover100 they did not run him to death, 24 is a pretty good old age for a horse and some horses go down hill once there retired the life kinda just leaves them cause they have nothing to do, just shows you how much he loved his job being ridden
Some horses require a whip. I had a mare who didn't. She saw the arena and knew it was time to go. She LOVED to compete. My gelding needed a little tap to get him to move out. He wasn't the competitor that my mare was. There are certainly some girls who go overboard with the whips. I've seen a lot of barrel racers take stuff out on their horses--especially knocking over barrels. THAT is poor horsemanship.

It's not the pain the horse respond to, hitting with the whip is more of a signal. It means you gotta go faster. They know that the pressure and tapping on their hindquarter or shoulder means they need to move their feet. When barrel racers use the whip they use it during their run for the short home stretch. Yes the usage can be overdone, but it is not here.
