the strait swords befor they were curved were called: ken, along with other names... the whole show from national geographic is so amazing and the wakisahi dident leave the side of the samurai... and used to cut off the head of your oponent. and the best way to learn is to study how they were forged and how they are used, along with reading, if u can find any books on the crafts.

@snubbies1111 You're absolutely right, the curved sword drew out of the scabbard alot faster and the curve absorbed alot of the shock when striking a hard object, such as a helmet, armor, etc...

this movie is true but the first samurai swords were actually strait and sharp on both sides over many years the found that cuved blades worked much beter.
