Victoria de los Angeles, Soprano (1923-2005)
with Miriam Pirazzini, Mezzosoprano (1918- )

Giacomo Puccini - Madama Butterfly
Una nave da querra... Scuoti quella fronda di ciliegio
(Recorded 1959)

My personal opinion: Not a big and full voice, but she illuminated everything she sung. Her Butterfly and her Mimi (both alongside Jussi Bjoerling) are unforgetable.

  • De los Angeles must be included in any list of one of the top recorded singers of all time. She was magnificent in everything she performed.

  • De los Angeles : c'est la beauté et la classe!

  • Yes of course she's in the top 100; I call her opera's 'humming bird'.

  • Dio!!!

    Que voz enorme!!!

    Belissima e de dicção clarissima.

  • LA DIVINA VICTORIA DE LOS ANGELES ES LO MAS GRANDE QUE HA DADO ESPAÑA SE MERECE UN MONUMENTO POR HABER LLEVADO ESPAÑA AL MUNDO ENTERO CON SU REFINAMIENTO BUEN GUSTO Y EXCELENTE PERSONA DIOS TE TENGA A SU LADO DIVINA VICTORIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the most remarkable performances of ANY operatic role ever captured on record is her Mélisande. I know the opera can't compete in popularity with Bohème or Carmen, but please, please, listen to it. You will be rewarded.

  • When I need peace, when I need escape, when I need healing, I listen to Victoria.

  • Wowsers. I'd never heard of her.

  • Tosca, Boheme and Butterfly V. de Los Angeles & J. Björling - wat a treasure for us Opera lovers to have to listen.

Put it on UNESCO culture bank - but with an open door.

  • She was a great DIdo, also.......

  • Apart from the sheer beauty of her voice she is so touching, Tebaldis Mimi is vocally more fullbodied - look at the famed video with Bjoerling from 1956, what voices! - but in the unsurpassed recording with Bjoerling and Beecham (Boheme), De Los Angeles Mimi is so vulnerable, so sweet and shy, so magical, she IS Mimi...
