EXPLANATION: I didnt think I would have to do this but okay here it goes, He shot him because he was afraid. Hes spent his whole life alone and waiting for someone to come, so when someone finally does come he doesnt know what to do. Since hes been alone his whole life he doesnt know how to speak and has no way of communicating. And since the other guy waits for him to respond he assumes he is stupid or something so he shoots him thinking that one day someone else will come and help him.
Its meant to make you think about what life without other human beings would be like and how you would respond to seeing another human for the first time. Its also about how much we take human interaction for granted. Well there it is I hope you get it now and can enjoy the movie more.
