@5:39 Same officer who punched me is identified by face in the video back from March 5th 2011. It was a rally calling for a public inquiry into the Toronto G20. The officer can be seen not wearing his mandatory I.D Name badge which is misconduct by disobeying a rule of the Toronto police service. I was speaking out, standing up for journalists who were attacked at the Toronto G20.

"I got punched in the face by a police officer," said Derek Soberal, before he was escorted into an elevator inside City Hall. "This is an unlawful arrest. My camera was slapped out of my hand and
was broken. I was trying to get my camera because it was taken out of my hands." Derek Soberal quote from Toronto Sun http://www.torontosun.com/2012/01/17/arrests-at-city-hall-protest

4 arrested at City Hall protest, I was the only one put in jail on charges with a court date. All others arrested were released.

The four who were arrested are facing charges of obstructing of an officer, unlawful assembly and mischief. Three were released on Tuesday night. The fourth was held in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday

In this photo, I can be seen holding my camera filming the events unfolding for Occupy Canada. http://storage.canoe.ca/v1/dynamic_resize/sws_path/suns-prod-images/132664921...

Another photo shows me holding my camera prior to me being punched in the face by a police officer. The same officer slapped the camera out of my hand. I went to retrieve the camera which had the evidence of the assault. http://storage.canoe.ca/v1/dynamic_resize/sws_path/suns-prod-images/132664920...

Derek Soberal is tackled to the ground by TPS in front of City Hall during the 2012 Toronto budget vote. In the video, Derek was signaling that he was of no threat and stated "I'm getting my camera over there." He was pointing towards the camera, that was just picked up off the ground by a security guard, located behind the police barricade. Then you can see Derek being taken down by police officers. The camera has yet to be retrieved and is believed to hold the footage of the punch and destruction of personal property by a police officer. Sources indicate 52 division now has the camera.

Anyone with footage of Derek Soberal being punched, his camera being slapped out of his hand, or alternate angles of his arrest are asked to send us an email at OccupyCan@gmail.com. It would help provide evidence of what happened that night.

  • whats the aim here if the police step aside the crowd would smash loot burn murder? whats the aim of directing your anger towards the police i don't get it you are trying to get through the barricade and they are saying you can't, the cops don't care what cause you have its the law they are bring to up hold, we take the hands off approach in the UK, Look what happened this summer cities burned. you can't have mob rule. don't put your self up for it then cry about it when it happens.

  • It's going to be one hell of a SPRING ; )

  • @pwner34

Their "enemy" is not as clear "driven" into these officers minds. No doubt a quick look at the training/tactics used at the G-20 would tell us it was done with help from "American" police officers. We just are not as deep into the wheel of subversion as they are, there is not as much need to control our small population in contrast to theirs. Also there is the environmental factor, the toxins in their water/air/food are no doubt much greater, resulting in brain imbalance.

  • what was this protest about? thanks

  • Im seeing most of those cops not wanting to put their hands on anyone..they look ashamed, it's like brother against brother here. Canadian cops look more like human beings than American cops for sure...I wish this group of cops keep their humanity. Highly doubtful. Paycheck, family.....turn a blind eye to government corruption...hmmmm..time will tell as they say

  • So this is what freedom looks like.

  • Wow, that officer really went beyond what was reasonable. In fact, he lost control of himself and should be charged, and removed from his job. Only problem, they all get paid suspensions.

Shame on the Police, really, who's side are they on. Wait till Ford comes a knocking on their door.

  • They are not police they are thugs, treat them like such.

  • As I like to think of them, the cops on bicycles are a bunch of dweebs.
