In her culture after he kidnapped her and had his way with her most men would not want to ever marry her. She is "ruined". It's the same way even in Western Culture for the most part. They are trying to help her by forcing him to "do right by her" I think it's perfectly fine... and frankly a bit hilarious so long as she does not get hurt by him. Talk about being afraid of commitment... but he wasn't afraid to have an affair with her knowing it would dmg her rep. Typical male pig.
