Raydio was a funk and R&B vocal group formed in 1977 by Ray Parker Jr., with Vincent Bohnam, Jerry Knight, and Arnell Carmichael. The group scored their first big hit in 1978 with "Jack And Jill", which was taken from their debut self-titled album. The song peaked at #8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and reached #5 in the R&B chart, earning a gold record in the process. Ray Erskine Parker, Jr. (born May 1, 1954) is an American guitarist, songwriter, producer and recording artist best known for writing and performing the theme song to the motion picture "Ghostbusters". Parker gained his reputation during the late 1960s as a member of the house band at the 20 Grand Club. This Detroit nightspot often featured Tamla/Motown acts, one of which, The Spinners, was so impressed with the young guitarist's skills that they added him to their touring group. Parker also wrote songs and did session work for The Carpenters, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder (an association which prompted a permanent move to Los Angeles), Deniece Williams, Jean-Luc Ponty, Leon Haywood, The Temptations, The Spinners, Boz Scaggs, David Foster, Rhythm Heritage, Gladys Knight and The Pips, The Honey Cone, Herbie Hancock and Diana Ross. In the mid-1970s he was a sideman in Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra, before creating Raydio, in 1977. This channel is dedicated to all the great 'old school' R&B music I grew up with, the stuff that originally made me tap my feet and want to be a DJ. Funk, soul, disco, R&B, dance, hip-hop, pop . . . 60s, 70s, 80s . . . whatever you call it, it's all 'Old School' and it's all here!
