@DLlama Rats are incredibly intelligent. Just because they aren't the common household pet it doesn't make them any less better then other animals. I own three rats and they all make great pets. In fact they are well-behaved and smarter then my brothers dog. I'm not saying they are smarter then all dogs, but they top some of our neighbors dogs as well.
And FYI any animal can carry disease and fleas if they are wild and left unattended.

Wow guys. It's just a rat. We kill them when they get in our houses, we resent the fleas and diseases they carry, and their excrement can kill us....and yet you have sympathy for it? It's not like a cat or a dog, it's a prey item for smarter/faster/greater creatures. Who cares if it's scared? It's scared for it's life 24/7, it's what they do. Feed it to a snake or something and move on with your life which, unlike the rat's life, actually means something.
