India Bus Accident Kills 23 Injures 24

In India's Jammu and Kashmir, a bus fell into a gorge of the river Chenab, killing at least 23 and injuring 24. The accident took place on the Batote-Kishtawar highway near Assar, close to the town of Doda. The bus was on its way from Doda to Jammu, when it plunged down the 250-feet deep gorge. [Shishipal Goswami, Local]: "The bus accident happened today around quarter-to-one. Army, police and locals reached the spot and carried the injured to the primary health centre. Some passengers died on the spot, even they were taken to the primary health centre in Assar." Eyewitnesses say the driver was speeding and the bus skid when taking a sharp curve on the narrow road. 20 passengers died on the spot, while three died on the way to the hospital.
