Drake signed to Island Records when he was 20 years old and released his debut album, Five Leaves Left, in 1969. By 1972, he had recorded two more albums—Bryter Layter and Pink Moon. None of the albums sold more than 5,000 copies on their initial release.[5] His reluctance to perform live or be interviewed further contributed to his lack of commercial success. Despite this, he was able to gather a loyal group of fans who would champion his music. One such person was his manager, Joe Boyd, who had a clause put into his own contract with Island Records that ensured Drake's records would never go out of print. Drake suffered from depression and insomnia throughout his life, and these topics were often reflected in his lyrics. Upon completion of his third album, 1972's Pink Moon, he withdrew from both live performance and recording, retreating to his parents' home in rural Warwickshire. On 25 November 1974, Drake died from an overdose of amitriptyline, a prescribed antidepressant; he was 26 years old. -wiki

  • Nothing describes depression as eloquently and accurately as this song. The man and his music are such a gift to us. I feel blessed to experience his music now.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain wow if thats how you think about people in pain, i'd bet you were a big factor in why your brother offed himself. how naive and selfish for you to say that someone shouldn't have control over their own lives just cause you are too self involved to care about their interests. people at that point already have to deal with enough pain without dirtbags like you that guilt them about about the way they feel. noone is a scumbag for ending themself. you're a scumbag for saying that

  • i love nick drake... wow what an underappreciated artist

  • Yep, that's a flute and boot. Silly video, nice song.

  • Amazing. He ranks up there with Keats - talented young people that had a chance to get their talents into the world before dying far too young. It's lightened my day and others and that makes that brief time worth it all.

  • Pity his life was a sequence of depressions. What a talent. Something else than those half naked tit shaking none talents, that made me, e.g., decide to dump my TV and not to replace it.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain Chronic depression, especially if it is not treated properly, can lead to mental illness. Clear, relative thinking may no longer have been on the cards in the case of your brother and Nick Drake.

Suicide may be contemplated and executed by people who are in that boat, or by cowards because it is a lame way out.

Who'll tell where your brother or Nick were at the end of their lives?
