After leaving the train station in Bryson City, we stopped in the nearby town of Dillsboro, N.C., where we spent an hour and a half layover. There were some nice shops and restaurants in Dillsboro, but Claire and I spent much of our time at the old school soda fountain at Bradley's General Store right across the street from the train. I think one of the coolest parts of our train ride on the way back to Bryson City was when we passed the site used in the filming of the movie "The Fugitive" starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. You will recall the famous scene in the movie when the Illinois Department of Corrections bus crashes and is hit by a train. The wreckage from that scene is still in place at the site of the filming. We thought it was pretty cool to see something like that. Needless to say, we were ready to get back to Bryson City and find something to eat.
