@lordy9099 I'm willing to bet they don't have the 2nd power cord connected.

How much do you spend a month on electricity?

Great setup. Like me you are using old but still bulletproof gear. As you have said we are not millionaires, so we make do with what we can get hold of. Much of the hardware I have still runs at pretty respectable rate for most apps I use and customers use. I am currently using family as guinea pigs with my servrs and intend to expand more by the end of this year. I can only do so much with one person.
Well done guys!!!

Online games are Web applications and they use UDP. Just because it's a Web application, doesn't mean it has to use TCP.
You should read up more on how TCP/IP works, why you would choose one over the other, what benefits/disadvantages each has etc. For eg. UDP is much faster than TCP but it's a 'best effort' protocol. You're not guaranteed to get your packets through. TCP is slower but your packets WILL get through and in the same order they left in. Read some of W. Richard Stevens stuff
What language are you programming in?
Does your software use TCP or UDP?
Are you using UNIX/UNIX-like OSes?
(Sorry if you answered any of these questions. I had to watch it with the sound turned down.)
I'm running Solaris on a Dell GX280 as my desktop computer and it runs like Phar Lap on steroids!

We are writing the code in python. Its a web application (so yeh TCP) and all the hardware was to make sure that we could scale without problems in the application. We are about to launch so we might sell the hardware soon. The systems are all running on CentOS 5.2

we have built an application we are going to launch soon and we want to make sure we can scale up as required, so we rearrange the boxes to see the affectivness of different architectures.
