"Resident Evil Zero was first unveiled during the Tokyo Game Show in 2000. The game was originally slated for the Nintendo 64, as it was believed by the developers that the platform's cartridge-based media would be more capable in handling the item dropping and partner zapping systems proposed for the game than the disc-based media used by the Sony PlayStation and Sega Dreamcast due to the lack of loading times. However, production of the game shifted from the Nintendo 64 to the GameCube as a result of the transition to sixth generation consoles. Since the GameCube made use of a disc-based media, the programmers were forced to rely on clever programming methods to shorten the loading times. The graphics were improved dramatically due to the platform change.

In contrast to other known Resident Evil prototypes, which have been known to go through massive changes during production, the story and settings remained mostly unchanged in the released version. Rebecca's original character design featured her wearing a beret instead of the red bandanna she wears in the original game. In the released GameCube version, she uses the same design from the previously released GameCube remake of Resident Evil.

Currently, this is the only Resident Evil in the main lineage not to be released on multiple platforms. Though a run through of it can be played in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

Originally Resident Evil Zero was supposed to lay the groundwork for the Progenitor Virus, which was to be the viral agent in Resident Evil 4 before the game was radically changed and the story re-written from scratch." - wikipedia

  • god damn it i miss the old resident evils...old games in general..why is it that nowadays games are so "player friendly"?i liked em back when they were cryptic and hard and items would blend with the background and you had those where the fuck do i go now moments..today you know exactly where to go and what to do and every item has literally a neon sign pointing at it...game developers really need to get back to their roots

  • this one over RE4 and five any fucking day

see all

  • It didn't looked bad for a N64 game.

  • @kompwars

and what is it now?just another generic action game.the seemingly clunky controls, scarce ammo and health supplies, slow pace, poorly lit rooms were what made RE unique.i dont wanna sound elitist but..they were not games intended for everybody.you either loved em or hated em.RE4 was just a run and gun game made to appeal to a wide audience(still a good game, dont get me wrong..they just should have called it something else)cause in my book, true RE ended with code veronica

  • @TheChainsOFMisery but the thing is, the gameplay is too stale and outdated. they kinda had to change it. And come on, RE4 and RE5 were not easy games.

  • @eatmyfish02 I know. Chris went from 5'9", 170lbs to 6'2" 220lbs. He went from average guy to body builder. In the past that average build kinda mede me feel like you were relying on his military training and marksmanship to pull through.

  • @eatmyfish02 I´m whit you and all the real resident evil fans are whit you

  • Looks like the SD version which sucked

  • This looks tons better then the released version on Gamecube...

  • the old resident evil games were a lot different than the new ones, now all it is, is Chris Redfield on steroids using 0% of his brain and 100% brute force, instead of looking for a way around a door, you just kick it down, its sad to see good games go this way. :(

  • I'm happy this was delayed for the GameCube.

Resident Evil 0 was a masterpiece, possibly my favorite game in the series.
