@jlucydaisuke I remember getting your order back in customer service as it came off the conveyor belt system they had. Think I still have some funky TV trays I bought there. Great memories!!!

I used to have two in my area. One in Fishkill and one in Wappinger Falls.

Best retailer ever!
I used to go there when I lived in Mobile, Alabama in the '90s. I believe it closed down in 1998.

Both of my parents worked there for years... I have very fond memories of Service Merchandise :)
Ahhh The gift registry. The little computer just sitting in the store....as a kid I must have entered about 100 different names and sent out advertisements and catalogs to different people. But those people would receive it with names like, "BoogerHead Williams" "JohnCockyHead".........GIMME A BREAK I WAS 9

I remember that store well. I went there fairly often and it looked very ornate. I enjoyed going there as a small child and liked to look around while my parents shopped. We bought a lot of furniture there. My birth certificate (I was born in 1992) currently sits in a cabinet that was bought there. My grandfather worked there as his last job (when he was semi-retired).
RIP Service Merchandise, 1934-2002
Closed in my area 2001
