Finally, here it is. The last cutscene in Ganbare Goemon 4, the one you've all been waiting for, with English subtitles below the Japanese text. A few things I should tell you about this video...

First of all, it goes by pretty fast. Apparently, I was a little excited when I recorded this. I would recommend that slow readers pause every so often.

Second, this video is divided into "takes", with each take being a new attempt at getting past Omitsu. In order to save your time and my computer's memory, some takes end early, and most of them start later in the scene. Don't worry, I assure you you're not missing anything. I just don't want to waste your time by making you watch something you just saw, since there are a few repeats. Hopefully, this video is easy enough to follow.

Third, I'd just like to apologize for taking an unbelievably long time to finish this. I didn't work on it much while I was taking Japanese at the local community college.

I'll eventually make a blog post about this, so watch out for that. Until then, enjoy!

  • There is actually a hint for this sequence, but it requires going to Ebisumaru's section and talking to a fortune teller.

  • ...I didn't know that. Any idea what the hint is?

  • It's pretty much the proper responses rendered as either "up" or "down."

  • That would actually be really helpful. Thanks for the tip!

  • After being teleported to the desert a DOZEN times, I kind of wished that the game allowed me to break the tanuki's neck.

  • Heh heh, I bet we all wished that.

  • i wish someone one day translate this game, because is one of the best of snes

  • Me too, some of the "correct" answers just don't seem to make much sense (take the first one, for example). And I guess the tanuki is stronger than he seems, heh heh.

  • Those nosebleeds are awfully inconvenient, think of the stain potential! And I find it creepy that the tanuki is able to knock out and transport Goemon. Having blindly followed a walkthrough to bypass this part of the game, I wonder what the difficulty level was for this challenge, to the Japanese gamer who was actually reading through and trying to determine what to answer.

  • Who knows what kinds of thoughts are running through that perverted head of his during this scene?
