Video footage of Alfred Deller and his Consort rehearsing a section of Francis Pilkington's "O Softly Singing Lute" from his "Second Set of Madrigals and Pastoral" of 1624.
Here is a link to my Deller playlist: http://www.youtube.com/user/kadoguy2006#grid/user/518189837228B363
"O softly singing Lute,
See with my tears thou Time do keep!
Yet softly gentle strings,
Agree with love, that cannot sleep!
Sorrow hy'st when as it sings,
When tears do fall, then sighs arise,
So grief oft shines in most sad eyes,
Yea love through heart it dies."
Pictured with Deller are his son, Mark (countertenor); Maurice Bevan (baritone); Honor Sheppard (soprano); and Paul Elliott (tenor). Neil Jenkins, tenor, is in the back by the window. I am not sufficiently familiar with the folks who sang with Deller to recognize the other soprano.
For more of the Consort rehearsing and a performance, see part IV of the Deller interview titled "on the Countertenor voice" which may be found on the playlist.
WOW! I am overwhelmed. This is so poetic. If there is a heaven these angels are singing there.
