Term limits is not specified in the Constitution. Tom Foley, a former Senator from Washington state, had the prospect declared unconstitutional in the Federal Courts.
Peter Schiff, one of three candidates running to gain the Republcan nomination to oppose Senator Chris Dodd, weighs in on term limits, redistricting and Congressional turnover in this video.
This clip was taken from an interview of Mr. Schiff at his campaign headquarters in Milford, CT on December 16, 2009. The interviewers were members of the Independence Caucus, a powerful conservative grass roots group determined to be instrumental in selecting future candidates for state and federal elected offices.
@ayokay123 I think he'd retire after 6 years.

@ftwbk And if you actually believe that he'd retire from the Senate 12 yrs after being elected, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I can sell you.

@ayokay123 he's actually said on several videos during the campaign that he would be for term limits as follows: 2 terms for senators and six terms for house reps. both lasting 12 yrs.

@RoySC1 Voting is a right, not an obligation. That's democracy

Did it ever occur to you, that those people aren't voting because.... they don't care? Maybe, they decided, they don't want to know about politics, and if you force them to vote, they will be incredible vulnerable to manipulation, and, may just flip a coin, canceling out your, hopefully informed vote
Term limits are good, because first, it makes clear that any law passed, the congressmen will have to live under. Also, it stops them jerry-mandering the districts to stay in office

Suppose we do have term limits, who would you replace them with? This proposal is absurd, because we have term limits already by voting the incumbents out of office. Just get off you duffs and go to the polls, and vote. What we should have is mandatory voting by all registered taxpayers. What percentage of eligible voters actually vote in the elections? About half - and we call our country a democracy?

@ayokay123 If you think people wait for congress to pass a law forcing them to help people before they reach out to each other then you need to get out more.

It's call sound money, where you dont expect taxpayers to pay for everything the govt pen decrees in order to buy votes, making hard choices to help your own mfg sector, which should be the backbone of a healthy economy, not getting taxpayers to fork out for the privilege of having a (auto) mfg sector. Not running a printing press so savers and people who earn honest money have it devalued.

He's a typical "less government", "less taxes", unfettered free marketist who believes that government should have zero social obligation, zero power other than to make war and police, and that everyone's "on their own". It's called social darwinism. Survival of the fittest. Throw the old, sick, poor, and infirm out on the street. Oh, did I forget anti-Social Security, anti-medicare, anti-medicaid, anti-minimum wage, and anti-regulation? I guess I did. Same old, same old black versus white.

As I said, look at the hundreds of videos and thousands of written commentaries. He is a man from the Austrian School. People who study Austrian economics know that man only acts in order to change his current position, no matter what that is. He utilizes certain means to reach those ends (whether they are realized or not). But, like many other Austrian economists,Pete is quite grounded in sound principle. He is not out there to rip anybody off. But, he will point out who is ripping you off.
