@TheKuchisakeOnna they are depicted in japanese style, the ox is the gaurdian of hell along side the horse (not the one drawn here) same with the dog if you notice it depicts youth mid age and elderly , yokai can refer to all spirits demonic or otherwise

@TheKuchisakeOnna the animals in the zodiac were not normal animals they had special powers and interesting features, the ox, in this picture is the gaurdian of hell, it looks like the minitaur of crete (forgive my spelling) and the dog looks like the three headed dog of hades but they are all japanese =)
