    How do that do that, like 3D effect in the backgrounds? It's pretty cool.

    Did they say "we'll teach him to be whiter?" I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and think maybe it was "wiser..." But was that shoeshine guy at the beginning supposed to be a black person? ...Those were different times, all right.

  • The technique is called Rotoscope and mainly consists of recording a live background and then animating on top of it in order to give that effect. Max Fleischer created this technique.

    The guy was never black, he was just plain dirty. African Americans in those times were portrayed in a very different way.... 1:47
