Arthur Mullard was a British comedy actor who was born into humble beginnings in Islington,
London, England. Before starting an acting career he took up boxing when he was in the army -
becoming a pro boxer after he left. He started acting with small, walk-on parts in several British
movies after the war and became the actor of choice when casting agents were looking for an
"amiable, ugly cockney" for TV and film roles. By 1976, he had his own comedy series on British TV
called "Yus, My Dear" (the title mimicking his cockney accent). Arthur entered the British pop charts
in 1978 with a spoof recording of "You're the one that I want" from "Grease", in duet with a comedy
character actress named Hylda Baker who, by then, was in her seventies! His solo song, "I only
have eyes for you", was a big hit for Art Garfunkel in 1975 and Arthur Mullard covered the song in
his own inimitable style that same year. The song was released on the RCA record label and,
surprisingly, had no chart success whatsoever! This recording is taken from that 45rpm vinyl single.
