Scherbo is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, no doubt. Those of you complaining that Phelps gets more publicity; remember that Phelps won in a time of digital media, and of course he's going to be a huge focus in the US (since he's an American). I'm quite sure Scherbo is a household name in Russia compared to Phelps. It's just the way it works. But I agree that Vitaly Scherbo is one of the greatest Olympians ever, and his 1992 domination was written about extensively.

He's great alright -- the way he nailed the stutz hand back hand back hand after the two healys and the hop pirouette - he NAILS everything! But if your talking about the greatest gymnast ever, you've got to look at Dimitry Bilozerchev and Tong Fei -- there are so many.

Scherbo looks to me like the best gymnast that the world has ever known. He's so precise, constant and beautiful. I used to be a gymnast myself. My jaw drops at his performance.

It really kills me that an idiot like Michael Phelps gets more recognition than Scherbo. Phelps competed in a sport with obscenely redundant events that allow an individual who is dominant in one or two skills to recycle those skills over and over for multiple gold medals. Scherbo competed in a sport where each event requires distinct skills from the other, and unlike Phelps (who won 3 Golds from relays in 2008), only ONE of Scherbo's golds came from a team performance. Scherbo is better.
