Smarty Jones trounces the field on his way to try for the Triple Crown. I was very surprised to find that Pimlico track announcer Dave Rodman's terrific race call was not on YouTube.

  • A picture of perfection!

Terrific call by Rodman...Thanks for posting

  • I agree, Rodman was on the top of his game here; he's surprisingly underrated.

    You're very welcome.

  • I agree! Thanks for posting!!

  • You're very welcome.

  • Wow! I thought this was a tad reminiscent of Secretariat so easily running off from the rest of the pack. :-)

  • Yes, it sure was an impressive performance by Smarty. Shame he wouldn't settle into his usual stalking position in the Belmont; that's what cost him the Triple Crown, IMHO.

    Take care.

  • Rodman really doesn't get credit enough. I wouldn't have had one problem in the world if he took over for Durkin this year. maybe he never called 20 horse fields before but his Preakness call is perfection annually.

  • @littlenickyscarfo Don't forget Afleet Alex.

  • You have to give credit to Survivor (the first Preakness winner). His win of 10 lengths lasted 132 years until this guy surpassed it. Thanks for the video!

  • I wished he called races here in louisville. Hes much better than the brit we have now.

  • smarty jones then barboro the next year..two philadelphian horses that broke my heart

  • CHILLS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Personally I don't think anyone will win the

triple crown again, it's amazing how many in

the last few years couldn't get the Belmont.

  • Great clip once again. I wasn't a Smarty fan but respected what he achieved. I thought Lion Heart showed alot in the Derby and Preakness. And Rock Hard Ten should have been a great one!!
