Frédéric Chopin's twentieth preludium, performed on a 2006 Charles R. Walter 43 3/8 cherry console piano with the 48 1/4 bass string.

This piece was given the epithet "funeral march" by Hans von Bulow after the composer's death, and, though it was written in Common or 4/4 time, it bears a dotted quaver polyrhythm that is reminiscent of a march of death. This preludium also showcases one of the great wonders of the Walter piano, the bass response. Even though the cabinet is only 43 3/8 tall, these Walters all bear a much deeper keybed, longer, grand sized keys, and a significantly longer set of bass strings - all of which facilitate deeper, rounder, grander timbre like that of a larger Steinway upright. Sooo...it is a dream to play! I hope you enjoy my version of the song.

  • Very beautiful! You are skilled! However, what is that sound??? It is in two of the videos I have seen! It is an oscillating high pitched sound.

  • Hey, opferte!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I have worked on this preludium for a while and got it to tip top shape for this video. I am glad my playing was of such enjoyment!

As for the slight, oscillating whine throughout the video, I am sorry to report that it comes from my integrated web cam. The webcam is on my Sony, and has a fantastic mic for capturing sound and all...but also gives some back noise. I appologize for that.
