Well, today was supposed to be the day she made her break-in runs and such, but mechanical problems arose and diesel #1007 had to take over for all of the days runs.

  • Well, at least they have time to make sure all the bugs have been exterminated on 154 before the Railfan Weekend :) It's nice to see another steam engine back in service :)

  • @trainmaster844 Sierra #3 is back too :)

  • How often do they plan to run 154? I'm thinking about going to see it later in the month.

  • @NCStL576 She wont run again until Railfan Weekend, but she's supposed to run the Christmas Express all season. Not counting railfan weekend steam itself is done at the 3RR until after Thanksgiving.

hey I'm not saying anything against anyone. Just saying too many restorations these days are rushed, and they shouldn't force the date. I'm sure the crew just didn't notice there was a problem until the 3rd. I mean they can't just test out the 154 like they can with the Sierra #3, the 3RR runs freight very often. But anyway, I don't really mean that it was a half-assed restoration, but I just wish that it could have had a great first weekend like the Sierra #3.

  • @SierraRailway

You shouldn't spout off like an idiot about things you know nothing about.

  • @SierraRailway I doubt it, unless there is a massive fallout of diesel, even then though they would probably use the 203. (more power)

really? So is the Sierra, but they only run freight Tuesday and Thursday. I wonder if the 154 will ever run a real freight.

  • @SierraRailway it was done, there was just unknown issues due to lack of being able to run on the line, as this is a working freight railroad except on saturday and sunday.

  • This was no where near as great as Sierra Railway #3's return to steam which was also on this weekend. Unfortunately, I live over a 150 miles away from her! Southern 154's restoration was probably as they say "half-assed" and they rushed to get things doen before the date, but I'm not saying Sierra #3 didn't have ANY problems. She did on Friday and Sunday, but she ran most of the time. Hope to See Southern 154 running a train soon.

  • @SmokyMtnSteam It was advertised. They said a private unveiling.. they aren't going to advertise a ride they ain't selling tickets for. It was an employee special for the first run. And those were the test runs that day anyways.. better they tried and failed on the opening day where there weren't any tickets sold than during an actual revenue run.

  • @boberttrain831 If they'd done the runs as advertised she wouldn't have broken until today though.
