An actual riot occurs at the end of this song. Cops entered the building from the front and began shooting tear gas into the venue. The cause of the police entering the venue is unknown.

Ironically, the Dead Kennedys song "Riot" was not played that night.

Recorded on June 24, 1983 in Wilmington, CA.

  • BTW there is no irony, the above information is false, they OPENED the set with "Riot"! Back then, when a band like Dead Kennedys comes to town after not playing LA for a long time, the possibility of a riot is already on everyone's mind. Especially in a weird venue location like Wilmington. I remember being SHOCKED that they opened with "Riot", it was a brazen move and turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Guess Jostoc wasn't there and this is posted from another's source, thx 4 post tho

  • @1MadPotato You're right, I wasn't there, but one of us is definitely mistaken because I have a copy of the entire show from the master cassette. They started the show with Saturday Night Holocaust as they were tuning up.

  • I was at this show. I was in the back of the hall when the cops came in. They actually fired tear gas into the hall beforehand, and I thought it was someone messing around with a fire extinguisher. But when they came charging in, all hell broke loose. I remember escaping through a shattered glass door near the stage, and there was fighting everywhere outside and helicopters overhead, a realy well planned cop-eration. I ended up at UCLA getting 16 stitches in my eyebrow.

  • i remember they only played 5 or 6 songs b4 the cops came i remember sin 34 playing but cant recall who else

  • @Jostoc Did a Google search for the date and found a setlist that does open with "Saturday Night Holocaust". So far looks like you're right and I feel like someone recalling a hallucination with staunch conviction...though it was 28 years ago and I was a 12 year old that was well stoned lol. Waiting to hear back from friends that were there to confirm whether or not I am just trippin' lol.

  • Must have been near by you because I remember hearing, "Riot cops are here...go go go go" A split second later the situation redlined to a complete panic emergency, everyone tripping over each other to get out before too many cops got in...basically dodging clubs from the cops trying to get in the same door we're scrambling to get out of. Saw my buddy get clubbed just inside the door, cops ran myself and another kid off deep into the hood as they ridiculed us, belittled us, and endangered us...

  • Fuckin cops were beating the shit out of kids.

  • Haha I was there. Got billy clubbed on the way out.

  • I was there too. Amazing to at least hear it again. I always remembered the riot started after Holiday in Cambodia. The cops had no reason to jack the show. I guess the fact that it was a Union Hall ( Longshoremen) and not at a civic center like Santa Monica gave them the green light.

  • wish there was video footage of this
