Québec a Nation History (Part 5)

The End of the Iroquois Wars

The beaver wars, also called the Iroquois Wars or the French and Iroquois Wars, commonly refer to a brutal series of conflicts fought in the mid-17th century in eastern North America. Encouraged and armed by their Dutch and English trading partners, the Iroquois sought to expand their territory and monopolize the fur trade and the trade between European markets and the tribes of the western Great Lakes region. The conflict pitted the nations of the Iroquois Confederation, led by the dominant Mohawk, against the French.

The Filles du roi or King's Daughters in English were between 800 and 900 Frenchwomen who immigrated to New France (now Québec) between 1663 and 1673 under the monetary sponsorship of Louis XIV, to marry and start families in an attempt to further populate New France.

There exists an occasional misconception that many filles du roi were recruited from among the dregs of the population of Paris, and that many were prostitutes. This story, while untrue, comes about from the fact that a few Parisian prostitutes in the 17th century were arrested and transported to a penal colony in the Antilles islands.

  • Thank YOU for sharing these videos. ITs a valuable and great gift to people that want to learn. YOu also seem to know your stuff concerning the Native Nations of N.America.

    peace.

  • @Skadoosh417 This is their origin, but the metis people have a long history and a rich culture that was shaped by a lot more than just throwing 2 cultures in a blender

  • did intermarrying huronians and frenchmen create the Metis race?

  • @ChieftanOfBritton

The average of intellectual ability differs from continent to continent. It is obvious that bone structure, skin tone and even the average running speed and swimming (the average)capability is different from race to race so why is it assumed the average of intelligence has evolved identically through out the world...

  • From whom did they purchase Montreal from? Also! Filles de Roi "If we can't push them out - We will breed them out!" Sound familiar?

  • @FallenTemplar1405 Savage only means those who live in the wood, Natives lived in the wood. At the time the word Savage was said in a noble ways, it was not an insult. The Natives didn't know writing, they didn't kown what was a wheel and didn't use metal, their weapon, knife, ect, were still made of stone. Natives lived like in the Paleolithic period, it was a cultural choc for the people of the renaissance. French saw the Natives as weak and undeveloped, not as racially inferior.
