I bumped into Logan Marshall-Green who plays Trey in L.A once. I asked him about filming this scene and he said it was really hard to get the effect right. In the end after 42 miserable takes he recommended to the director that they just use a real gun as it was the only way it was going to look convincing. Obviously there were highly trained paramedics on scene, and as soon as the director shouted cut they patched him up and commended him on a cracking piece of cinematography.

:( saddest but best scene of the OC! It is so sad when Trey gets shot he's soo hot! it really gets to me when he stands up and stares at marissa and you can see blood dripping down his face and tears coming from his eyes! I'm totally on treys side he just needed help not get shot!
