What he's saying is true. The government does impose on the freedoms of its citizens, usually in a 'blanket' resolution that doesn't take into account the very problem that the law was implemented to solve.

However, this is true of any society and not just one with a 'legal government'. The consequences of stealing in a tribal society vs that of a capitalist society might differ, but are non-the-less meant to discourage behavior that is perceived as 'bad for the tribe'.

Stanhope would never in a million years run for office. If you take his words seriously, the man is a Libertarian anarchist. Freedom is NO government. Are you Serious? No one for President 2012.
