"No Man's Land" (also known as "The Green Fields of France" and "Willie McBride") is a song written in 1976 by Scottish-Australian singer-songwriter Eric Bogle, reflecting on the grave of a young man who died in World War I. (Wikipaedia)

The first song I ever recorded seriously, This is a second version from 2005. I intend to a new version later this year.

An astounding ballad, that gets me! Bogle has managed to evoke so much in one song... His words are much better than mine.

  • a beautiful, emotive song, unfortunately not heard by many people, maybe if it was, there would be more respect for past, current, and future soldiers of a countries army.

Thank you for the sensitive response. A very moving song, I agree, and when people listen closely they get even more out of the passionate and sobering lyrics. A song which has haunted my musical journey since I first heard it.

  • beautiful song, a true classic
