  • how far can you reach on HF bands with 20 watts using the internal batteries?

  • Regret, I did not use the battery's experiment.

  • Gee, someone thought to actually show a rig listening to a ham contest. Contests can be great fun. I like my FT-897.

  • This is great because a lot of people need to be able to look up a particular rig, see it and hear it work. I appreciate vids like this more than someone whizzing through their shack assuming everyone seen one of these before. And...if I'm going to buy a used rig from someone, I pick the guy who left the plastic on.

  • Could this be a good radio to buy for a beginner like me??

I have no HAM experience, i see these on craiglist used...

whats the difference between this, and a regular CB radio?

    please help,

    thanks

  • I had a qso with an owner of a FT-897

    operating from Alaska KL7OU she

used a long wire with the FC-40 tuner

on her snow mobile & her first contact

was Southern California with 20 watts.

After hearing that I bought one on Ebay

and use it as a base rig with a dipole.

Debbie if you read this 73 !

  • I agree I'm dead set on getting a liscence and my first radio and I think thise is the one. It offers plenty of features so that way it would be awhile before I replace it, but I have to know it sounds good. To bg1cal is this the internal speaker I am hearing? If I go mobile I dont want a whole bunch of extra accessories.

  • The power is not as important for the distance as the conditions/propagation is. 20 watts can be sufficient for 10000 mile-QSO's. Surely easier with more power.

  • 来一个中文的评论,哈哈

  • w type antenna u use

  • I know it's new but at least take the plastic off the screen, LOL.
