In begging of creating this game creators planned zombies as enemies in the game but later they changed enemies to majinis. Also in 2007 this game was darker,scarer, was got more enemies, limited ammo, so everything what we got now in released game is just co-op action shit like l4d. I'm not lying, this info is from book called The Art of Resident Evil 5.

the original RE is 10X better then the rest it was harder, scarier, more isolated you never meet up with your team, zombies own in 1 hit, limited ammo.
