@devoneh the poeple of southern Azerbaijan are mixed with persian..northern Azertbaijan is caucasian race mixed with turkish. just like i said the similarities in names come from invasions by different empires. we have used persian alphabet during persian empire, cyrilic alphabet during russian empire, etc.. but again our culture, race, food, traditions, dances have nothing to do with Iran's.

@Lmo505 Sure, azerbaijan which is ACTUALLY in Iran not the current country called Azerbaijan in some greek sources is called Albania but not in their own language which was Persian... Turkish language came into the region of Azerbaijan 400 years ago. The republic is known are Shirvan (persian for land of lions) after a King and Arran (again persian) The cities of the republic also have Persian name so yes they are the same race, culture, people as Iranians

@devoneh first of all we are not even turks, our language is similar b/c it was changed during ottoman influence. we are caucasian albanians. the name Azerbaijan comes from iranian language b/c sadly our poor country always have been occupied by different empires, including persian empire. many things like our language, religion was changed, and our race is mixed with turks, etc..but thank god we have kept our traditions and dances..which is different than turkish and iranian..similar to other
