The volunteers at STOP do amazing work in helping thousands of disoriented hatchlings become re-oriented and sent to the sea, but much work is still necessary to educate the public and cities about the importance of reducing or eliminating the dangerous lights along the beaches. Hopefully these videos will help to do that!
This is gut-wrenching to watch. I've seen baby hatchlings and how vulnerable they are to everything human- our lights, our trash, a beach chair left behind where a mother can get caught and strangled, our curiosity and flash cameras which scare them. Having recently moved to the area were this was filmed, I was shocked at how little residents are aware of what they should and should not be doing. There must be a better way to educate the public and enforce the many violations that are occurring.
That is so sad. I love turtles and give props and respect to those trying to help save them.
