Fresh from their 2010 Spring Concert two nights ago, here's the UNC Clef Hangers with soloist Ryan White covering Josh Groban's "February Song" in Memorial Hall on the UNC campus at Chapel Hill. This is Ryan's "Senior Song"...

  • Oh my God. That was stunning!!

I wish I could see them live, but this will do :) Thanks again, Mr. McQuaid

Also, out of curiosity, how do they choose who does the "goodbye speech" for each graduating Clef and who did it for Ryan? He looks pretty choked up, so it must've been a heckuva speech :)

  • @ugotkaied Honestly, I don't know if there is a 'process' to pick. It's always an non-graduating member and most often someone who was particularly close to the graduate, so I know there is some requesting or 'dibs-calling' that goes on. Sean Currlin did Ryan's, Adam Brawley did Hogan Medlin's, Florian did Jonathan Mauney's, Hogan did Andrew Simpson's (Hogan's not graduating), Clayton Casper did David Hall's, and AJ Kiehner did Jay Rankin's.

  • you do josh proud. but ryan looks so nervous.

  • @wadyano He was emotional more than nervous, I think - Ryan has plenty of experience on stage with solos. He had to sing this song immediately after a heart-wrenching "goodbye" speech from one of his fellow Clefs, honoring him per tradition for the graduating seniors. So maybe he was just dealing with the gravity of all that and his last concert as a Clef...

  • Gave me chills at the concert, gave me big time chills at Old Well, and still gives me chills every time I watch it. Amazing job, Ryan. Big props to everyone on this one...it was incredible.

  • I have enjoyed so many of your videos, but this has to be one of my favorites. I love Josh Groban, and his shoes are not easy to fill vocally. Ryan White did an amazing job.

  • Amazing. Chills all over...

  • ryans voice sound remarkabl;y simolar to josh at certain points, especially his vibrato. its not quite as deep as josh though his voice is beautiful. i hope he pursues singing.

  • this arrangement is amazing. so technichal and precise.

  • amazing, absolutely amazing.

  • @karatetrumpter - I'm not sure what he sang in the group, but his lower range sounds too resonant for him to be a tenor. I think he's a baritone with a really good top.

  • wow, sounds great! Sounds a lot like Grobie!

  • @karatetrumpter He's a baritone :) They all killed it!

  • Usually you guys are great... but this one was flat on all accounts :( I'd love to hear another recording because it feels like a good arrangement.

  • Damn! Get...it! Ryan's break is so clean, it's ridiculous -- a T2 I take it. At 2:59, the build is incredible and the harmonies so tightly stacked, I got goosebumps. The T1s are killing it.
