Here's a test for a new recording program I found. Here's some of the pros and cons I've found:
Pros:
- Great audio/video quality
- Allows me to use fullscreen
- Barely any distracting lag from the program itself
- Rather small video files
Cons:
- Fullscreen mode is rather blurry when I'm playing the game (I may or may not be able to fix this)
- There is just a tiny bit of delay on the video, but not enough to distract me unless it's a rhythm game like Gitaroo Man which requires perfect timing, even then it wouldn't be too bad
- When I'm recording, the audio sounds like it's slowing down to stay in sync with the video, it's a bit hard to notice though, so that's all good.
- Here's the big one, when I'm recording, I can only record game audio. This program uses PCI audio only so I can't record with my voice, only the game. If I ever choose to use this program to record my videos, I'll choose between getting a separate program to record audio (which I'd rather not do), resorting to captions for commentary (Which I'd also rather not do unless it's a game I'd really rather not talk over), or just doing a plain walkthrough without commentary (In this case, this program would be perfect since the audio quality is quite good.
- One last thing I'm noticing just now, this video has taken a good 10 minutes to upload, usually it's more like 5 minutes, considering I've had the time to type all this before the video even finished uploading, that's quite a bit of time (Even though I am a rather fast typist)
- People are now mentioning that the audio is in mono, so if you use headphones to watch my videos, this may not be a great idea for me to use. I don't know why it works that way because I didn't tweak anything as such (Must be something with Corel itself... Or maybe my RCA cables just decided to kick the bucket, I'm not sure. Anyways, I won't use this program too often anyways, so no big worries.
Overall, I'd say if I ever want to do text commentary or simple game walkthroughs, or even just playing a game fullscreen myself, this program would work quite well to meet those ends. Since after all this is a test, tell me what you think of the footage and audio! The game being recorded is Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne by the way, and yes, I know, I was being clumsy and stupid in this video (Especially on the minigame bits as well as letting Hell Biker die), this was really more of a quality test than to show off how good or bad I am at the game (I haven't played it in weeks either, so that doesn't help).
Oh and confirm that the audio is actually Mono. Youtube will only do Mono on the typical low quality. HQ and higher support multiple channels.

Hmm, maybe if I export directly from PowerDirector it'll have Stereo (I use that program for recording/compressing stuff now). In fact, Corel VideoStudio 12 has the same feature. I ought to try that out. It'll probably retain the quality of the raw video file much better that way.

Looks nice but the sound is only in the left ear

So it doesn't work well with headphones I take it XD I dunno how that works out... Didn't tweak anything to work that way, anyways.

You can make the video then do the commentary.

I don't enjoy post-commentary, it doubles the time it takes to make one video, feels less natural, and though you get to script things, I really like being able to commentate as I play.
