  • There isn't a "back story" between Billy Vera and Judy Clay. He originally wanted to record it with Nona Hendryx but there were contractual issues so he did it with Judy Clay. Got that from a live interview he did on LAGenX radio. Billy never appeared on American Bandstand with Judy Clay. He didn't make it there till he was 42 after At This Moment became popular.

  • JUDY CLAY DIED IN 2001 R.I.P.

  • In a fair world, Judy Clay would have been a much bigger recording star. She was soul to her core!

  • Thanks for clarifying things I don't know! you see as you mellow with time, your

taste toward the nice things which fill you with pleasure and emotion change

I did not know they were the authors, thanks once again.

  • @MrSekanda. "The best"? i do believe it was the first recording , and most daring. And I do believe there is a back story to this.

  • I am almost certain that their is a back story to this song. Both Vera and Clay seemed to be too involved and personal in theme of the song for it to be simply incidental. But what did I know at the time? I was nine years old, after all. They did appear on dick Clark's "American Bandstand" in 1967A.D. a year before "Guess who's Coming to Dinner?". Pretty radical for the times, as even older ppl who lived it would tell you.

  • Before my time, but nice.

  • Yes, she was in a very tragic car accident in 2001.

  • Didn't we lose Judy Clay recently?

  • I saw Billy and a singer named Jamie Lovette perform this song together in NYC.

Many years ago. I wonder what happen to her. It is still my huaband and I favorite song.he ask me to marry him.And we are still together after42 yrs
