How can an organization successfully partner with diverse communities to change the food system?
This webinar brings together several presenters who care passionately about both good food and working with diverse communities as partners and allies. They will share how they have worked with communities to support their leadership and to create a more just and sustainable food system from the ground up.
Karen Washington and Owen Taylor from Just Food will describe how their innovative train-the-trainer program has developed a network of talented community leaders, expanded their organizations reach and impact, and changed lives in New York City. Diana Copeland from the East Michigan Environmental Action Council will describe what they have learned from a community-based partnership to create an educational and commercial enterprise to provide healthy, affordable fish and produce to Detroit residents. Kolu Zigbi from the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation supports many organizations that have sought to work in diverse communities, and she has succeeded in making the Sustainable Agriculture and Food System program she manages increasingly reflective of our nation's diversity. Drawing on this experience, she will share questions she asks of organizations engaging in this work and offer her observations about the recipe for success.
Speakers will focus on illustrating best practices for partnering with diverse communities and building community capacity through specific examples. You'll hear practical advice from these dynamic thought and action leaders.
This webinar is brought to you in collaboration with the Community Food Security Coalition.
