*This is the full 15 min version of the demolition*

Even if you don't have time to watch it all, skim through it for the music and detailed destruction. The end has credits to the men who sang the songs on this video in 1960; these were alumni of this house that is being demolished. These men had just received their Sigma Phi Epsilon Charter a year prior in April, 1959.

Sigma Phi Epsilon Kansas Eta Alumni secured funding over the last few years to build a new chapter house for our fraternity at Wichita State University and the old house was demolished the week of December 13th-17th, 2010.

The timelapse was shot from the second story Southeast window in the new house. I used a intervalometer set to 10 seconds to capture 6 shots/second. The camera was powered from a wall adapter and using a wall timer, it was powered from 6am to 7pm every day. This yielded 4680 pictures a day. Resolution was set to 1936x1288.

This timelapse uses about 17,500 of the 23,000 pictures taken. I used Adobe Premiere Pro CS2 for processing the video. I tried Final Cut Express and Premiere Elements on my mac and neither could handle the volume of pictures, so back to the old standby program. It was very difficult to get Premiere Pro to keep from crashing...lots of careful steps during importing and saving constantly.

  • Outstanding work Cramb!

  • At 2:10 you can see the shed still standing despite everything else being torn down. I thought that thing was going to fall down about 20 years ago!

  • After they took down the chimney facing Vassar, I think it's interesting that they starting piling debris on the roof (around 2:07), and then kept piling it on until the top of the northwest portion of the building collapsed under the weight.

Thanks for creating and sharing this timelapse...that's some detailed documentation, for sure.

  • Dude, I couldn't get through this without crying...

  • I enjoyed this Andy...my family's company does demo work here in WV. Also I haven't heard the Sig Ep Sweetheart song in a REALLY LONG time.

  • the best part of this video is watching them work on DU and it still looks like shit
