Words from Christopher:

"He was the greatest American composer north or south. In fact, he was the greatest non-European composer of all time. That comes closest to a true assessment of how good V-L was. He was quite competitive with his contemporaries such as Stravinsky, Bartok, and Prokofiev, something I can't say for Copland, sadly, being an American. He made Copland, Barber and Gershwin seem like amateurs in comparison. "

  • The most celebrated SOUTH American composer of all time? That's small praise. Hell, he was the greatest American composer north or south, period.
