Shawn was a great boxer, but his coach was an immoral son of a bitch. He allowed Shawn to take way too much punishment, and Shawn paid the price. Peter Wylie made a big name for himself at the cost of Shawn's health, and where is he now? When one of my boxers is taking too many shots, I do something about it, even if he's winning. The year before the olympics, Shawn took over 60 right hands to the head, in one round, at the nationals. He won by stopping the guy, but who had the more damage?

I remember watching this on my Parent's Zenith. In the ring Shawn was a brawler he so exiting to see. So much heart and determination and conducted himself like a gentleman. An example to follow for boys and girls. A true Canadian hero.

I agree he lost to Tiozzo who ended up have a better career than Tate or O sullivan. OSullivan beat Tate. The point I tried to make last week was that because many thought Tate lost, he was not considered by MOST to be a true Olympic champion. Frank Tate seems like a nice guy.
