Some views of trams in Berlin, as seen in April 1990

This video features two tram rides on different types of tram plus trams + closed U-Bahn stations, and more.

The closed stations include Oranienburger Tor & Nordbahnhof on line U6, the latter being where for a brief moment we hear a West Berlin U-Bahn train travelling under an East Berlin street (Freidrichstrasser?) (@ 1' 25")

Yes, a lot of people find these films to be nostalgic. But its different for me, as I only ever visited Berlin after the opening of the wall in 1989.

@citytransportinfo Yes I appreciate that. You cannot 'feel' it the same! A pity not to have seen Berlin as it was then!

@alanheath Alan, I was going to drive to Moscow for the 1980 Olympics, travelling through Berlin and Warsaw and also taking some religious items to distribute to local people, but the boycott saw that trip being cancelled. Other than that I was not confident to travel behind the 'Iron Curtain'.

Sehr geil, das is ab Min. 1 U-Bahnhof Zinnowitzer Straße. Hat sich viel verändert in den letzten 18 Jahren!!!

@citytransportinfo That would then have been a really exciting journey! I did it for the first time in October 1992 but by then everything was under new management!

@dronespace Yes, well I bought my first camcorder in December 1989, and then started filming!

Alas it was already too late for some things (which I'd filmed in super 8) but expecting many changes to start happening I went to Berlin as soon as the spring arrived.

Thanks Simon. From looking through your videos, 1990 was a very important year for you? As a lot of the historic videos and comparisons tend to start from 1990 as the base year.
