Down, Not Out

A bowl of soup before him
He contemplates the feed,
His face is not familiar,
Although it's clear he needs.

One of many desperate souls,
Lining up each day,
Quietly they shuffle on,
Walking with a sway.

Living in the angry streets,
Sleeping on a bench,
Sun will always warm you,
Rain will always drench.

People rushing past them,
Eyes they'll never see,
Wonder which one's thinking,
Glad it isn't me.
